SUMMER DAYS 9-10 Mon & Tues June 8 & 9

Oops! I haven't blogged in a couple of days. I know you've probably been pacing the floors waiting for my post. ha ha! We've stayed busy the past 2 days.

Monday was day 1 of Samuel's week of Cub Scout day camp. He's gone the past 2 years & loved it. He gets dropped off in the morning by 8:30 & we pick him up at 2:30....or rather, we show up at 2:30 & it's closer to 2:50 before they actually get done so we can leave. He's having fun but already tiring out. I think he's a little less enthused about day camp this year, wishing he was at home watching TV or riding his bike or whatever instead. I hope the rest of the week gets better & he can have FUN! It should. Tomorrow is "swaps day" where the kids get to pin all sorts of crazy stuff to their hat & when they get to camp, the other boys swap them for items off their own hat. I'll make sure & take a picture of that! Friday they have a firetruck come & turn the water hose on for the boys to play in. They always enjoy that, so I hope he perks up & enjoys the rest of the week!

On Monday, we took on a new summer project! You may remember that last summer we took care of a friend's yard & went swimming in their pool on a weekly basis. That family was moving out of state & waiting for their house to sell, so we took care of it while they were gone. Interestingly enough, we have another family to do the same thing for this summer! I went over on Monday & got the keys, garage door opener, calendar of dates for us to do our "job", instructions on everything, etc. That night, the kids decided we needed to go test the pool & make sure it was working properly (ha ha) so we did! It was great!!! Our first swim of the summer.

I was so proud of Samuel! Last summer, even after a 2nd round of swim lessons, he was still not really SWIMMING. He could get by in the shallow water but I did NOT trust him to go into the deep end *at all*. But Monday night, he was jumping in & diving for rings at the bottom of the deep end! He hasn't had a lesson since last summer & hasn't really practiced much since then, so it was fun to watch him try & try til he "got it". While I still wouldn't allow him to hop into the deep end without supervision, he was swimming (underwater better than on top) like a fishie Monday night! Sarah, on the other hand (who was doing better than Samuel last summer) wouldn't turn loose of the noodle all night, so she swam....but with assistance.

And in case you're wondering, the headband Samuel is wearing is called an Ear Band-it. It's specially designed for kids with tubes in their ears. You put in waterproof moldable ear plugs & then put the headband over their ears to keep the plugs in. When he got tubes in April, I knew we'd have to have SOMETHING for swimming this summer, so this is a good solution.

On Tuesday, Samuel went to day 2 of his day camp. The girls & I went to work at the preschool. We all came home afterward & did chores, had some quiet reading time (the poster is filling up with stickers!!) and enjoyed our evening.

It's Wednesday now....I'll post more about our day today later tonight. We're going to our first night of our church's "Family Camp" tonight, so it ought to be FUN!
