our stay-cation

This year, instead of a vacation, we're going on a "stay-cation".  This is a concept we've read about for several years now.  The idea is that you have a smaller budget than a typical vacation & you stay at home (or in your home area) rather than travelling out of town/out of state/out of the country.  For us, this is mostly due to the incredible rising cost of gasoline!!  With all the costs in our lives rising (& rising & rising & rising), we've chosen to have a stay-cation this year.

For a week in July, we'll be turning off the cell phone, taking time off work & just hanging out with our family.  We'll go to local touristy things that we don't normally have time to go to and we'll stay at home, in our own beds each night.  We're really excited about it!

We've got a few things in mind to go do, but we're looking for more ideas.  We're thinking of things that are either here in our hometown or places that we can get to in less than a couple hours' drive.  There is a waterpark nearby, a place with sprinkler spraygrounds, a train that goes back & forth between two small towns--the kids have never ridden a train before, museums and other assorted close-to-home venues.  If you live around us & have any other ideas of places we should go visit, drop me an email (Lizreeves2@aol.com) or leave a comment here.  I'd love to add some more things to our list of things to do that week!

You should visit the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens.  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/visit/information/
